Big eats in the Islands

The Channel Islands pride themselves on their local produce, and with good reason. The high quality ingredients results in a fantastic array of cuisine, and there are endless options for eating out.

From sumptuous sea food, to mouth-watering ice cream, the variety of gastronomic excellence is phenomenal. 

The Navigator

Situated in Jersey’s Rozel Bay, overlooking a peaceful and picturesque harbour, The Navigator is a hidden gem for food enthusiasts, boasting a high quality menu made from some of the finest produce the Island has to offer. When the sun is shining the outdoor balcony opens, allowing customers to enjoy their food in the open air with a clear view of the beautiful surroundings. The Navigator specialises in sea food, the lobster, crab, and cod being particularly excellent, although other dishes of a similarly delicious standard are available. Jersey Royal potatoes are available with most mains, and are a pride of the island’s agriculture.

Fermain Beach Café

You’ll find the cafe hidden down a costal path, overlooking Guernsey’s stunning Fermain Bay. The terrace offers views of the greenery covered cliffs of the beach, cocooning its turquoise waters. You can enjoy a range of dishes here, from crab and other seafood to pasta dishes, and of course, Guernsey Ice cream. The cafe is a particularly good option when considering a day at the beach, a happy alternative to sandy sandwiches.

Bistro Rosa

In St Helier, the bistro is hidden away in an indoor market, and is easy to miss, although it certainly shouldn’t be! The seafood is sublime; a real testament to the quality of produce that the surrounding seas of the islands can yield. Jersey Royals are of course available with the majority of the mains, and are cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly, as is the atmosphere of the restaurant, which is unique and charismatic; well worth a visit.

Aromas

Aromas is a restaurant and bar that has a warm and inviting, relaxed environment. It’s a great place for you to kick back to relax and socialise, although the staff are highly professional; the chefs paying exceptional attention to detail, and the front-of-house staff giving a similarly excellent service. The menu offers a wide variety of genuinely delicious mains, including fish, steaks, lamb, pork, and a vegetarian segment with pasta dishes to die for. The drinks menu is similarly extensive, and is complementary to the food available. 

Old Quarter Restaurant

The restaurant is found in the Old Quarter of St Peter port, down a small cobbled street that will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Meals at the Old Quarter Restaurant are made with locally sourced ingredients, from the land and the sea. The result is dishes which have a distinctive flavour of Guernsey, although with a slight Irish twist. To best exhibit Guernsey’s culinary calendar the menu changes seasonally, and year round the meals are well priced and tasty. Friendly attentive staff provide a good service, making eating at the Old Quarter a fun and enjoyable experience.

China Red

China Red was recently voted number 7 in the Independent’s Top 10 UK Chinese Restaurants, and it’s easy to see why. The authentic Chinese dishes are delicious, and the range of food is extensive. There are separate menus for mains, lunch, takeaway and parties, making China Red suitable for any occasion. The restaurant is understandably a very popular pick amongst Islanders, so booking in advance is a good idea. Portside location means that the best seating overlooks the water, which makes for dining perfection.
