We’re all guilty of taking for granted just how easy it is to pop over to France for a day. Taking a day trip is a great way to get away from it all and see something different. Whether your trip is to spoil yourself with the local shops and delicacies, or simply to find a nice spot in the sunshine and sample what France is best known for…Wine!

From St.Helier’s Elizabeth Terminal, Jersey, it’s just a short one-hour journey to the port of St.Malo. By the time you’ve finished your onboard coffee and fresh croissant, you’ve arrived in France!

Just a 10 minute walk from the ferry lies the famous and beautiful walled city of St.Malo. Walking through the cobbled streets feels as if you have stepped back in time. Whilst in the walls, spend your time exploring the interesting mix of cosy hotels, restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as open air markets and shops by the dozen.

At the back of the walls, stunning sandy beaches await! At low tide, cross the beach to walk out via the Porte des Bes to the rocky islet of Ile du Grand Be, but be sure to check the tide time tables as once the tide rushes in, the causeway remains impassable for around 6 hours.

Mix it up a little and take the sea bus across to Dinard. The Corsaire boats leave approximately every 15 minutes and take only 10 minutes to get you there, much faster than if you were to travel by car.

Dinard tends to be less touristy than St.Malo, which presents you with a real sense of exploration. Characterised by its long, and often wide, tree-lined boulevards that converge on elegant squares full of chic restaurants and creperies, the city juts out seawards and is, therefore, surrounded on three sides by beaches and the sea.

À la carte restaurants serve fine French cuisine as well as fresh fish and seafood, which is a speciality on many restaurants’ menus. Most of Dinard’s restaurants have impressive wine lists. For a lighter meal, the city has a good choice of creperies and fast food establishments.
