From sumptuous sea food, to mouth-watering steaks, irresistible ice creams and delicious fruit and veg, Dorset and Western France are in no shortage. To enjoy them to their fullest it helps to know where to look, so we’ve compiled some of our top picks for eating out.

Cargo Culte

This cosy and charismatic restaurant is found on the corner of Rue Broussais, St Malo, and could be easily missed, though it certainly shouldn’t be. Visitors are advised to book in advance for dining in the early evenings as the restaurant is so popular amongst locals, testament to the phenomenal quality of cuisine. The ingredients are fresh, and the staff are friendly and enthusiastic, which adds what is already a fantastic evening out.


Guildhall Tavern

The tavern boasts some of the best Seafood in the South West. There’s plenty of eating space, as well as attentive staff, who will provide you with an elegant dining experience. It’s a family owned business, and their love for the service they provide is evident in the food, and atmosphere of the restaurant; friendly and charming.


The Pig on the Beach

This hotel and restaurant’s grounds will make you think you’ve walked into a fairytale. Looking something akin to a small thatched castle, The Pig on the Beach is truly amazing, and dining areas include features such as the Roundhouse, a circular 12 seated table in a separate room overlooking the kitchen garden and Old Harry Rocks. The garden is where much of the ingredients for the dishes come from, and the rest is sourced locally, in accordance with the 25 mile menu, which consists of ingredients all sourced within that radius. The food is prepared with care and attention, and is of truly outstanding quality.


Le Millesime

One of St Malo’s best restaurants, le Millesime is not just a great meal, but a wonderful evening. The fantastic dishes will sate the appetite, and the steak particularly is uniquely good here. The staff are really passionate about their work, and will happily discuss at length the different foods and wines available to provide the best meal, catered to your particular tastes.


Restaurant Roots  

Bournemouth’s Restaurant Roots is a dining experience like no other. Though slightly more expensive than the other restaurants on our list, it’s easy to see why. The food is sublime, and the attention to detail and presentation of the food makes it transcend into more than a meal, but a work of art, so much so, you may feel reluctant to eat it! A contemporary fine dining experience, which is unique and superb.


Creperie Le Tournesol

The creperie is a great choice to stop by for a snack, or for a full meal. Mouth-watering, succulent and sweet crepes and ice creams are available, alongside galletes for a savoury option. The food is complemented by reasonable prices, and lovely views of the quaint city. The creperie is a gem, and though small, is worth shouting about.
